Understanding Depression and Growing Resilience

Eastern Harmony Mental Health participated in a training seminar of Los Angeles County Mental Health Department:

It is estimated that 1 in 15 adults (6.7%) is affected by depression.

One in six people (16.6%) will experience depression at some point in their life. Depression can strike at any time, but on average it first appears in the late teens or twenties.

Women are more likely to suffer from depression than men, and some studies suggest that one in three women will experience a major depressive episode in their lifetime.

When a first-degree relative (parent/child/sibling) has depression, heritability is high (about 40%).

Key points:
Don't stigmatize depression! Depression needs more attention and positive responses, and it should be treated correctly!
